Go find you smile.
They’re out there. Find one in the mud that clings to your hiking boots, the smell of campfire on your clothes or the deafening silence of a far away place. I’ve seen them hiding on the tops of mountains, the bottom of ski hills and floating aimlessly on an ocean breeze.
They curl up on front porch swings on lazy summer nights to a serenade of crickets. They are on the snowflake melting on your tongue or the flip flops snapping at your heels as you explore a hidden cove.
Don’t miss the one staring back at you in your rearview mirror as you head out on that impromptu road trip. Catch some reflecting in the still water you repeatedly dig your oar into, or on your buddies sunglasses when he looks back and exclaims ‘did you see that?!’
They may grit their way through steep summits and switchbacks but in the end they are there, bigger and brighter then ever. They’re contagious and easy to catch, usually lingering around the next bend, in the middle of that final rapid or in the sand between your toes.
Find them when you watch the sun creep over a distant peak or when the surf erases your footprint. They’re in that first smell of autumn as the leaves crunch underfoot or on a blanket in the backyard gazing skyward.
It doesn’t matter where you find them, as long as you do.
Go find your smile.
